Coach Hootner’s Preuss Lady Tritons
Donation protected
As I begin my 28th year of coaching, I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else other than at the Preuss School at UCSD in San Diego. After coaching college basketball for 23 years, I was introduced to the Preuss School, the #1 ranked high school in San Diego some five years ago. And my life has never been the same every since. Because of Preuss, my journey has become so much more enriched and complete because of these Lady Tritons. They are without a doubt the most humble, giving, hard-working, selfless young women I have every been around.
What makes it even more amazing is that all of them come from low-income households and ALL are first generation student-athletes; meaning none of their parents have graduated from college. And typically 98% of the seniors go on to college!
Our budget each year starts at $0. The money I raise every helps me to be able to give these incredible girls an experience they’ll never forget. For most if not all of them it is their escape, their sanctuary, and they’re second family. We use these funds for equipment, travel expenses, team shoes, travel gear, food, and transportation.
It is my hope that one of these years we raise enough money to be able to fund a trip to the east coast as most of them have never traveled and while there, including but not limited to visiting colleges and universities so that they can become more cultured and have greater experiential growth. I’d also like to create a scholarship fund to be able to help the seniors entering college offset some of their costs (i.e. books, travel, etc.).
We have raised over $20,000 over the last 5 years and every penny has gone to the program. We also give back every year by giving back to the community by being involved in a number of different events annually.
Thank you on behalf of all of my girls. I couldn’t possibly have done it without all of your generous contributions and we hope that this is our best year ever!
