Coach Gabby Weiss: Memorial at Marcussen Park
Don protégé
On behalf of Gabby Weiss, ourselves, and the Marcussen Park board, we would like to raise money to build a new batting cage complex on Marcussen Park grounds. This would be in dedication of all that Gabby gave to Austin, Minnesota youth athletics, especially the All-Star program.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Maynard (Gabby) Weiss passed away at the age of 91. In 1977, Gabby organized the Austin ‘All Stars’ baseball program. He was the chair of the organization as well as coached the team for 22 years. Gabby was well respected and admired by his peers, many children he coached in
baseball, and those in the community for more than 45 years.
He cared deeply about the people in the community. Any baseball player who he came in contact with he would ask about, even when they were adults. To him, these kids were like family.
Gabby had a profound impact on the Austin community. His commitment to youth sports and his dedication to mentoring young athletes created a legacy that will be remembered for generations. He fostered a sense of teamwork, discipline, and
sportsmanship among the children he coached, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Gabby’s efforts in organizing and leading the Austin ‘All Stars’ provided countless opportunities for young players to develop their skills and passion for the game.
