Fundraiser for Coach Carolyn

This is a fundraiser for our Coach Carolyn who was recently hospitalized after suffering an infection of her spine causing the loss of the use of her legs.

It all started when Carolyn was a happy-go-lucky cheerleader in High School. Then her world fell apart when she was diagnosed with Lupus. Her doctors strongly recommended that she slow down and take it easy. This went against every fiber of her being. So she did her own research and cleaned up her nutrition, found CrossFit and dove headlong into it. Two years later her symptoms became almost non-existent, leaving her doctors dumbfounded.

For over eight years, Carolyn had been thriving and enjoying life to its fullest, developing physical abilities she never dreamed possible and cultivating a fighter’s mindset to do whatever it takes to control her Lupus. She became a CrossFit Coach, and acquired several CrossFit certifications. In all, she was living a full life with the love, prayers and good vibes from her friends and family.

Then tragically, on August 16, her Lupus acted up and caused an inflammation of her spine called transverse myelitis which effectively took her ability to use and feel her legs. This was a devastating blow to her and everyone around her. Since that day she has been hospitalized and is currently undergoing treatment and physical therapy.

There is hope, however. Her doctors have recently told her that she may regain the use of her legs in about one year. So she fights daily during her PT sessions, working on one day becoming self sufficient with the help of a wheelchair. And she vows that she will return to the gym where she will do whatever it takes to work out again, even if it’s only with the upper half of her body.

But financially, this has been a great burden as medical expenses and loss of income from her inability to work has taken its toll. Because of this her CrossFit community has set up this page to help alleviate her burden. We ask for your help. Any contribution would be a great help to her and her family. Thank you!
