Coach Baum’s Legacy
Donation protected
John Philip Baumgarten, (Coach Baum), left a lasting impact as a true legend in coaching, teaching, athletics, and mentorship. For 33 years, he dedicated his life to teaching at Hilltop High School and coaching baseball for 29 years. Coach Baum's legacy as a coaching legend is cemented in the structures he built at Hilltop and the improvements he brought to all the schools in the South Bay. His Baum Dogs were renowned as the best hot dogs in the county, and fans would come to Hilltop games just to savor them. The influence and impact of Coach Baum on his students and athletes is a life-long privilege. Those of us who were fortunate enough to experience it gained valuable life lessons both on and off the field, and for some, even in the classroom. These lessons have helped us become better human beings, and the memories of what we learned will stay with us forever. Baumgarten's love for baseball and his dedication to his players and community shine through his long-lasting contributions to the Hilltop baseball field. From adding a clubhouse at the end of the batting cage to upgrading the entire field, he left no stone unturned in making it the best it could be. Thanks to his efforts, Coach Baum's Diamond was always in pristine condition during his time at Hilltop. His commitment to the game and his players is truly remarkable, and we can never thank him enough. To honor his legacy, it's only fitting to celebrate him with a bronze sculpture and a grand celebration. We are currently raising money to cover the costs of the bronze sculpture, created by none other than Mark Martensen a close friend of Baum’s, and the upcoming event. We kindly ask for any and all contributions to make this a reality. if we manage to surpass our fundraising target, we'll be able to put the leftover funds into a scholarship established in John's name for students at Hilltop High School. So, let's give it our all and see how much we can raise together!
