On May 13, Alameda lost a key figure in our community. Stephen Burnett was our beloved coach, mentor, and friend.

We knew him as “Coach B,” a man with a larger-than-life personality, signature laugh, and endless stories. He was the kind of person that knew everyone in town, having coached Alameda High’s golf, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and ping pong teams for the last twenty years.

Behind Coach B's warmth and smile was a fierce competitor with a long track record of championship titles and collegiate-ready athletes. He believed wholeheartedly in his students' potential, pouring his own money and time into supporting Alameda High's programs and student success. His relentless passion stemmed from his own humble beginnings: his football scholarship to Texas Southern was his ticket to college and a life-changing opportunity. He stopped at nothing to ensure the same opportunities for his Hornets.

It's hard to find the words to explain how much Coach B meant to the Alameda community. You can find dozens of memorial posts on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/stephen.burnett.524 His generosity inspired countless students and his presence at Alameda High will be missed for years to come.
In Coach B's honor, we're raising money for his public memorial at Thompson Field on June 13th from 1-3pm PST, his memorial scholarship, and charity donations in his name. We ask that all donations be made by Friday, June 11th, to help fund memorial preparations. Further details regarding his memorial will be updated on this page.
Allen "Nak" Nakamura, Coach B's long-time best friend and colleague, will be in charge of managing the funds.
