Vilde is a 10-year-old girl from Auning, Denmark. She has a big dream of going to Disneyland. On Christmas Day, she made a video on Instagram in which she asks her father, who is standing in the kitchen cooking, how many likes it would take for him to take her to Disneyland in Paris. Vilde’s father gives a completely random number that is so high it seems unattainable: 1,055,000 likes.
The video quickly breaks through the social media barrier, and within 24 hours of being posted on Vilde’s Instagram profile, the goal is reached. Five days later, the video has 3.8 million likes. TV stations and newspapers have contacted Vilde and her father for interviews, and everyone is asking when the trip to Disneyland will take place. The plan is for the spring.
With this fundraising effort, we hope to have the opportunity to make Vilde’s experience at Disneyland even more special. The trip will need to take place over several days, as Vilde can only tolerate activity for a maximum of 2–3 hours a day, after which she must return to the hotel to rest.
Vilde has been diagnosed with autism (Asperger’s) and hypotonia. This means that Vilde requires special considerations in the form of many breaks, extra time, and a clear structure. It also means that Vilde’s social life is often limited, as she becomes tired quickly and because social situations have not always been easy for her. For this reason, under her father’s guidance, she has been given an Instagram profile where she can live out her dreams, including role-playing.
In her spare time, Vilde attends role-playing activities in Ryomgård. This is an association where there is room for all kinds of children, young people, and adults who do not always have an easy life, and where most participants have a diagnosis with them.
Role Playing in Ryomgård (RIR) makes a huge difference and has been pivotal for Vilde’s well-being and joy in life.
A bit about Role Playing in Ryomgård:
RIR is a rapidly growing association run entirely by volunteer helpers. The association offers many activities that require equipment. To ensure there is room for everyone and that everyone can afford to participate in role-playing, we are seeking funds, among other things, for loan equipment and instructors. At RIR, you “attend” role-playing, which includes both live-action and tabletop role-playing, makeup, writing characters and backstories, making equipment, board games, card games, miniature games, improvisation, and more. RIR currently operates in physical premises with time limitations, which is why we are raising funds for our own facilities.
We hope to raise enough money to give Vilde a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Disneyland and to help ensure that RIR can continue to exist.
