Mollie (12) has been very unfortunate to have had bowel issues all her life and suffer from severe constipation. Despite years and years of going to see local gp’s and being given laxatives and more laxatives and stronger laxatives, she was never referred to a specialist to get to root of the problem, despite going back time and time again with the same issues. With years and years of laxatives they have damaged her bowel and unfortunately the damage is irreversible and she is now incontinent and has to wear nappies 24hours a day.
Mollies quality of life now is extremely poor, she lives in constant pain and described by a consultant paediatric surgeon “her quality of life with constipation and soiling is worse than that of children with uncontrolled Crohn’s disease and newly diagnosed leukaemia”.
She is in so much pain she can’t attend any outings or events as the pain is just too intense.
As you can imagine this is all having a very detrimental effect on her mental health
Mollie was referred to an incontinence clinic last year who finally referred her to Glasgow sick kids to be seen by a surgeon.
In December 2024 mollie underwent a small surgery to have biopsies taken and for Botox injections to administered to try help her bowel movements but unfortunately they didn’t work and the pain and discomfort has intensified greatly and the soiling has gotten worse.
A follow up appointment in February 2025 the surgeon said she feels that getting a stoma bag fitted is the only way forward for Mollie. Unfortunately the waiting list is going to be at least 18 months! This is due to the fact that there is very little theatre allocations as there is not enough staff.
Mollie truly can’t take much more of the intense pain and suffering! Her mum and step dad looked for private paediatric surgeons and found there are very few but found one in London who said he could help. They booked a consultation and saw him on 25th February and he was absolutely amazing and actually took time to explain how/why things weren’t working and what he could do to help her and get her a pain free and have a far better quality of life. Which is all Mollie wants! She never complains how sore/uncomfortable she is. She simply states she’s too sore to do something and that’s it.
The surgery Mollie needs is a lleostomy and appendicectomy, unfortunately doing this surgery privately is going to cost in the excess of £27,000!
This is why I have set up a go fund me for Mollie as having to wait at least 18 months on the NHS for this surgery isn’t an option as mentally and physically she has had enough and can’t take much more! She needs this surgery asap so she can be pain free, get back to school and be able to join her family on outings or attend special events. Just basically manage to have a life outside her bedroom. It will be absolutely life changing for her both mentally and physically.
Please please if you can donate anything to help put towards the cost of Mollies surgery she would be extremely greatful!
Thank you for taking the time to read Mollies story and if you can’t donate please share her story to others. Thank you ❤️
****Mollie has given me her permission to share her story and to let you know about her personal daily struggles, but has requested that her photo wasn’t used on the page, but she has allowed me to share older photos of her ****
