In a two-week period, Pete and his crew were able to bring the used bikes back to life by making sure everything was back in working order. It was no easy task though; it took several days and dollars to repair the bikes by replacing the needed parts as well as ridding them of the rust that had built up on them. Last Christmas Pete was able to donate over 30 bikes; most of which went to Haven of Peace here in French Camp.
After seeing all the joy and smiles that he had brought to the kids’ faces that Christmas, Mr. Paulsen decided that he was going to try and collect a hundred bikes to hand out for the following Christmas of 2019. Since then people from all around the area have been bringing us in used bikes that they either had laying around the house, collected from friends and family or even ones that they may have found on the side of the road. After Mr. Paulsen and his crew receive a bike, they fix anything that may need to be repaired, such as replacing with new innertubes or tires and by replacing a broken chain (just to name some of the things they do). After the repairs are made, they detail and polish the bikes to be donated.
Since setting his goal, Pete has not only accomplished it, but has surpassed it with flying colors thanks in part to all the wonderful and giving people who donated their bikes.
This year Bikes For Kids will be holding it’s third annual Christmas Giveaway on December 12th, 2020 at the Paulsen Ranch located at 1504 W. Bowman Road in French Camp, California. It’s going to be a fun filled day for everyone. Our special guest this year, making the long trek from home, will be the man, the myth, the legend himself, Santa Claus, who will not only be giving out the bikes, but will also be passing out cookies and hot chocolate to the kids as well as coffee to the adults with help from his elf’s.
Mr. Paulsen’s goal is to bring as many smiles to people’s faces as he can. So next year Bikes For Kids is not only be giving out bikes for Christmas, they will be giving out bikes to anyone that needs one throughout the year. Pete has also applied to make Bikes For Kids a non profit organization, which hopefully will allow us to get some more sponsors.
The money that is raised will go towards buying parts for the bicycles, such as Seats, Tires, Tubes, Etc.
