Hello, my name is McKenzie and I am Gracyn’s aunt, Brad’s sister. For those of you who don’t know, Casey and Brad’s beautiful daughter Gracyn, who just recently turned two years old, was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). This cancer causes myeloid cells to interfere with the normal production of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. AML is a form of leukemia or cancer, and at this point will require chemotherapy to treat. She may also need a bone marrow transplant though that is undetermined at this point. In addition to having AML, Gracyn also has Trisomy 21--better known as Down Syndrome.

This fall, Casey and Brad noticed some unexplained bruising on Gracyn. At that time, doctors began monitoring her blood platelets. When her blood platelets did not increase, Casey and Brad were faced with the decision to go ahead with a painful bone marrow scan to get more answers. This week they received the final diagnosis of AML. Gracyn will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks which will require her to be hospitalized.

Many people have asked how they can help. To keep from overwhelming the family, we decided that this was the simplest way for people to contribute. Casey is currently on a very limited, long-term disability plan that will not cover the time that she needs to be at Gracyn’s side through all of her treatments. The money raised will also provide private care for Callan, which he will require while Gracyn is in treatment to ensure that he stays healthy and does not carry an illness back to her. The family is currently looking for someone who is healthy and willing to provide home care for Callan to reduce these risks.

Additionally, Gracyn will also need a special nutrient-dense diet to help her both process and recover from the chemotherapy treatments. With your help, we can provide Brad and Casey with the money to get special meals for Gracyn through a program called Zuza’s Way. Any money outside of their basic needs would be donated to local organizations near and dear to their hearts.

If you have ever had the privilege to meet Gracyn, you know that she is the life of the room and can put a smile on anyone’s face. Gracyn’s sweet energy is contagious as she is constantly blowing kisses and showing love to everyone she meets. If you know Casey and Brad, you know that they always are willing to help others.
