I never thought I would be in a position where I had to ask for help just to keep a roof over my head. For five years, I dedicated myself to my job and worked my way up to Senior Assistant Manager, second in charge of the store. That job was my stability and my livelihood.

While dealing with a knee injury that took me out of work, a money mistake happened on my shift. It was a documented accident, but despite my years of loyalty and hard work, I was let go. Losing my job while injured was devastating, and since then I've been struggling to recover.

For nearly two months, I've been actively applying and searching for work with no success. I want to work — I need to work — but time is running out. I'm now behind on rent and essential bills and facing the very real possibility of eviction and homelessness. I also did not qualify for unemployment and was forced to file an appeal, which I am still waiting to hear back on. That process has been slow and uncertain, leaving me without any income during this time. I also did not receive any severance pay from my job.

I also have my cat to take care of, who is my emotional support animal. He has been a constant source of comfort during this overwhelming and frightening time, and the thought of not being able to provide a safe home for him breaks my heart.
