In less than a week, my mother will be going through a very invasive surgery to replace a bone in her back that has been broken for a very long time and hopefully relieve the nerve that has been pinched due to the damage.

We’ve been struggling to get her pain under control for the past few years, as it has gotten progressively worse, to the point where she has difficulty moving around.

Still, she works a six day work week to provide me and her foster daughter a place to live and with food to eat, despite the mass amount of pain she’s in. Fortunately, we have been able to get her surgery, but not without the expense of her being out of work for three months.

We have four people living in our home, two of which have jobs and help provide for rent and necessities. I will be caregiving for her for the next three months and my mother will be receiving disability, though it will about 60% of her usual wages. We are unsure if we will be able to push through these three months relaying on two minimum wage jobs and disability.

Asking for help is very difficult for us, especially from strangers. We work very hard for what we need and get what we need done. My mother earns a bit and in addition to the others in our house working, we barely manage to scrape by. With her out of work we will be out of a large portion of our livelihood for a while.

We ask you please to help in any way you can as we truly don’t know if we can rely on minimum wage jobs to get through this long recovery time.
