I teach and coach wrestling at Central Middle School in Kansas City, KS. Our wrestling equipment is in dire need of an upgrade. As you can see by the photo, the mats are old and peeling, and they don't cover the entire floor (yes the kids are wrestling around on exposed gravel).
The mats get sanitized after every practice, but since they are peeling they become a breeding ground for bacteria. Then, the guys have to wrestle around on them.
At this point, new mats aren't just a want...they're a need. We've got to be able to provide a safe surface that is free of hazards and bacteria for our team to practice on. Since KCK isn't exactly the richest district in the state, our funds are long gone by the time sports programs come into play.
New mats and weights for our weight lifting program are estimated at $2,325. Help us meet our goal of providing a safer place for these 7th and 8th grade students to wrestle and work out.
