Luna's Hip Replacement Surgery
Beschermde donatie
Meet the beautiful princess Luna, a 6-year-old malamute mixed breed dog... and she needs your help.
She recently was diagnosed with hip dysphasia and needs a left hip replacement.
This journey started when Luna went to an emergency vet appointment to determine what was the cause of her left leg limp and pain. After x-rays, I was referred to UC Davis Vet Surgery for left hip replacement because they are the most experience in successfully performing this surgery for Luna's size. I have already brought a recommended harness and pain medicines for her.
The estimate for the left hip replacement surgery is $14,000. They did warn me that I might have to also replace her right hip as well, which would cost another $14,000. Her right hip is inflamed from compensating for not using her left leg because of the pain. Hopefully, after the surgery and the three-month recovery, her right hip will be less inflamed and the second surgery will not be needed.
So the plan is for Luna to have an appointment in mid-March to get x-rays from the UC Davis vet to plan out the surgery. Then she will have her surgery in late May or Early June. Then she will be recovering for three months and have a checkup by September to determine if a second surgery is needed and how the left hip has healed.
Most dogs that have a hip replacement at UC Davis Vet have great recovery and get back to their normal activities. Luna does miss her walks, which are her favorite thing.
Any help would be amazing. Thank you.
Update:
With this year coming to an end, I would like to thank everyone who was there for Luna and I. I truly appreciate it. Luna is doing so well after her hip surgery. Next year, we’ll start doing hikes together again. Luna wants her New Year’s Eve walk in this photo.
