On September 22nd Jacob went to the pediatricians where his parents were told to take him to South Shore hospital for further evaluation. The doctor at the pediatricians office was unsure of what was going on and wanted a full workup done on Jacob. There they faced every parent's worst nightmare. Jacob was diagnosed with one brain tumor by CT scan, and then rushed from South Shore Hospital to Boston Children's Hospital. There an MRI was given which reveled not one brain tumor but three large brain tumors. A 14 hour craniotomy was performed on September 23rd removing at least 99% of the three tumors. Through pathology testing Jacob was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He will now be inpatient for at least 6 months to complete 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 3 stem cell transplants. He has already undergone multiple procedures before starting chemotherapy. Laura and Chris have another son at home and plan to travel back and forth a couple of times a week to see him and keep his life as normal as possible, through this all. Both parents will be unable to work during Jacob's inpatient stay as they will by their almost 2 year old son's side through this unimaginable time.
