Hi, my name is Marlena. Some friends and I are fundraising for our great friend Nikki Swofford and family. Nikki was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer in January of 2020. Due to COVID there was a delay of her first surgery which would happen in June to remove half of her thyroid with the hopes it would not spread. Unfortunately, after her scans and checkup post-surgery, it was discovered that her cancer did in fact spread. Nikki was told they needed to remove the other half of her thyroid and lymph nodes. Her second surgery was completed in August 2020, and radiation in November. All while working 2 jobs, being a busy mother & significant other, and traveling to Springfield to help her dad who was also fighting cancer himself. Medical bills, credit card bills, prescription bills, traveling expenses, tests etc.…have piled up from that and they are doing the best they can to pay them. Now Fast forward to this January 2022. Nikki was experiencing stomach pains and went to get checked out. After multiple trips to the doctor & the hospital running 100 or so tests to try and figure out her pain she was once again diagnosed with cancer. Ovarian cancer & Endometriosis. Nikki is always doing for others and now I pray others can help support her & her family. Nikki is a strong woman & has an amazing outlook on life. Nikki & Larry’s 6-year-old son Maddox knows his mother is sick, but Nikki keeps a smiling face for him, so his daily routine is not affected. The money raised will go to past, present & future medical bills, prescriptions, travels to & from checkups and the remainder to food deliveries to their home & home expenses while Nikki will be out of work for 6+ weeks. While I know that twenty thousand will not cover everything it may relieve some worry & stress that they do not need during recovery time to just focus on healing.
