The mirrors in the dance studio on Kennedy Boulevard have always done more than reflect form; they’ve reflected a legacy.

Since 2009, these walls have echoed with the rhythmic counting of instructors and the nervous giggles of children finding their footing. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our mission has always been about more than just choreography—it's about community. We started with just 12 students, a small but mighty circle of dreamers. By our peak, that circle had widened to a vibrant community of dancers who called Step One Dance Studio their second home.
Then, the world went quiet.

The Long Intermission
Like so many others, COVID-19 forced us to dim the lights. For years, the barres sat dusty and the floor remained silent. We fought tooth and nail to return, and in 2024, we finally swung the doors open again.
But the world we returned to was different. We started back with 10 dedicated students, but the climb has been steeper than we ever imagined.

The Rent Burden: The overhead costs of keeping a safe, professional space in Eatonville have skyrocketed during our absence.
The Outreach Gap: Reconnecting with the community after years of isolation has proven to be our hardest choreography yet.

The Final Performance
We are now standing at a crossroads. Despite our passion and the history we’ve built over the last 17 years, we are facing the reality of a permanent "Final Bow."

This is our last-ditch effort. We aren't just asking for rent money; we are asking to keep the arts alive in the oldest incorporated African-American municipality in the United States. As we are growing, we are asking to give our students—and the future students we hope to reach—a place where they can soar.
As a 501(c)(3), your support isn't just a donation; it's a tax-deductible investment in the cultural heartbeat of Eatonville.

How You Can Help
We believe Eatonville still has a rhythm. We believe our story isn't over. Whether you are a former student, a local business, or someone who believes that dance changes lives, we need you now more than ever.

"Dance is the hidden language of the soul." — Martha Graham

Don’t let the music stop in Eatonville. Help us bridge the gap so we can continue to mentor, inspire, and move the next generation.

Will you help us keep the doors open?
