"CLYDE'S COMMITMENT" is a ten-minute short film that takes place in the 1930's during Jim Crow. Clyde Nelson is 18 years old, loves his girlfriend Debra Thomas, and lives in rural Virginia with his mom and dad. Coach Quinn recruits Clyde to be the star running back for Marquis University. Clyde imagines himself attending a Black college closer to home; but once he is accused of murder and thrown in jail, his plans for the future change abruptly. Coach Quinn must act quickly before Clyde is brought in front of a judge, or worse a lynch mob.
"Raging Bull" (1980), "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), and "Boardwalk Empire" (2010) are three examples that represent the style, production value, and direction that I will strive to achieve in my short film.
The $5,000 raised will go towards purchasing locations, props, wardrobes, permits, crew labor, and post production costs. Original music will be inspired by the wonderful jazz artists of the time such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Duke Ellington. My goal is to hire professional SAG-AFTRA actors for this project and eventually submit it to film festivals for award considerations. Your generosity can make this happen!
