Building on the success of last year’s West Highland Way winter relay, Clyde Mountaineering Club (a Glasgow-based mountaineering club) will be relay running the ‘Loch Ness 360’ on Saturday 7th February.
We will be raising funds for Scottish Mountain Rescue (SMR) , who represent 26 Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) made up of highly trained volunteers. They have to respond in a moments notice to help total strangers - often in the middle of the night and in poor conditions. They save lives in Scotland every year - and we're proud to be able to find a way to give back to the people who help us feel safer on the hills and in winter.
The Loch Ness 360 is a 130km route around Loch Ness, comprising sections of the Great Glen Way and South Loch Ness trail. We will run it in six stages - from 12-32km. As far as we are aware, this will be the first attempt of a winter relay of this route… so as long as we get around, we will be claiming a FKT! We will begin in the early hours of morning of the 7th, and finish in the evening.
We have 23 amazing members who will be running sections of the relay, or supporting with logistics:
