If you knew Joshua Clutterham, you would have known his immense love and passion for his family. Meredith was the love of his life and his eyes would light up whenever she would walk into a room. His boys were his heartbeat and his constant thought and concern was loving them well and raising them up to be mighty men of the faith who loved Jesus and understood the depth of Scripture and the Gospel. His gentleness, thoughtfulness, and kindness not only touched his family, but also so many more at Brookes Bible College where he worked and Clayton Community Church where he pastored. He faithfully and passionately told others of Christ and His goodness wherever the Lord planted him.
Joshua worked hard each and every day to invest in Meredith, Samuel (10), Benjamin (9), Gabriel (7), Aaron (6), and Isaac (4) so that they knew that they were loved and provided for. His leadership, love, and strength were a big part of the bedrock of this family.
During the Fall of 2020 something felt off to him. He could sense that his body was different and that something was wrong. On November 11 he received troubling news from his doctor. Cancer. Treatments were pursued immediately and surgeries came in rapid succession to try to stop the spread. Epithelioid Sarcoma of the Proximal Type was the eventual diagnosis. An extremely rare form of cancer had invaded Joshua's body and was quickly sinking its talons into him. Brutal amounts of chemotherapy and radiation were used in a desperate attempt to shrink the growing tumors but to no avail. Yet still he pressed on. While others would have panicked, Joshua remained steadfast in his faith, his devotion to his family, and his duties at Brookes Bible and Clayton Community.
Joshua grappled with an indescribable amount of pain as the disease grew worse. After many long treatments, hospital stays, and painkillers the devastating news that nothing else could be done came. It seemed as though the Lord would call him home, soon. Joshua was placed on hospice care and he poured his remaining strength into his sons as he tried to fit years of advice, love, and wisdom into now fleeting and agonizing weeks. Many tears were shed as Joshua and his bride spent final precious moments together as Meredith held his hand as the light from his eyes began to fade.
He wanted to be here to continue to love his family and care for them so desperately, but on January 18, Joshua took his final breath and left the body that could no longer sustain him.
Our hearts grieve and a massive void is now felt where he once was, but his impact and legacy will live on for many years to come.
Now is the time for the rest of us to rise up and to honor this great man as we care for his family in his stead. Meredith is now tasked with filling the roles of mother and father to these five boys as she manages the household, educates them at home, and guides them through the waves of grief that will inevitably come for years. The last thing that she needs is to worry about where the next dollar will come from or whether their basic needs will be met.
The plan is to manage and use any amount that comes in wisely and carefully with the help and guidance of others. Any amount big or small that comes in would be such a huge blessing to this family and is a practical way to meet their needs.
Lets do this. Lets bless the socks off of Meredith and the boys as we show our love to them in this way.
Feel free to share this and spread the word.
