What’s it All About?
In putting together our 30th high school reunion last year, we came to the unanimous conclusion that each of us was extremely fortunate to have grown up in such an amazing community as Crystal Lake and gone to such a great high school as Crystal Lake South. Due, in part, to the excellent education that we received at South High School, the majority of our classmates have gone on to lead happy and productive lives. This was evident in the joy and enthusiasm (not to mention excellent turn-out) at the reunion events this past summer. It was a true pleasure to get together and reconnect with old and new friends. To those who were unable to attend, you were sorely missed, but be assured, your names were floating in and out of many a conversation.
It was in that spirit that we made the decision to “give back.” If we, the CLS Class of 1984 were so blessed, why not pass on that legacy to some deserving CLS seniors? Those of you who attended the reunion took part in a raffle and auction which, thanks to your generosity, allowed us to raise close to $800! Thank you! However, we feel this is only the beginning.
It is our intention to raise as much $ as we can within the next few months, so that on Honors Night, in May, we are able to award not only one Class of ‘84 Alumni Scholarship, but SEVERAL Class of ‘84 Alumni Scholarships. How cool is that?!
What Can I Do To Help?
If you have not already, or if you are inclined to do so again, please give generously (even give annonymously if you so choose). However, no amount is too small. Also, hit up your family, hit up your friends, hit up your boss (or maybe you ARE the boss!). Do you work for a company that appreciates the education you received, or the education of a Crystal Lake high school student? It never hurts to ask. Perhaps your company would match your contribution, or kick in a million . . . or two. :-)
Who is Eligible?
Because we’re such a unique and diverse group ourselves, these scholarships are open to a diverse group as well, our only requirement being that the student has been accepted to and has committed to attending an institution of higher education, be it a trade school, a 2 year Junior College, or a 4 year college/university.
Who Gets to Decide??
A committee of your classmates is dedicated to bringing this to fruition. Each scholarship candidate will be required to fill out an application, write an essay, and participate in a face-to-face interview before the selection process begins. As far as who will be selected and why . . . We’re gonna go with our gut. You’ll just have to trust us on this one. We promise to do our best.
Thank you so much for giving back and for making a difference in the lives of some worthy CLS graduates!
