On September 17th Malik Echerivel was involved in a serious, near fatal car accident. Malik was immediately transported to the local hospital. The impact of the crash broke both of his jaws, broken pelvis, collapsed lung, and several broken ribs. Malik was quickly transported to a higher-level trauma hospital as his injuries were too severe. It was at the trauma center where he underwent surgery and doctors realized Malik suffered a traumatic brain injury and swelling to his brain. Malik has had several surgeries, including corrective jaw surgery. Malik will have his jaws wired shut for 8 weeks. Malik has a peg tube in his abdomen for feeding, and a trachea tube in his neck to help with his breathing. Although Malik is in a minimal conscious state, he was transported to a long-term acute care hospital for rehabilitation earlier this week.

 

At the time of the accident, Malik was transported to a facility that is over 300 miles away. Malik’s mother, Brittny has been traveling back and forth to Albuquerque. Currently, Brittny hasn’t been working many hours since the accident. In addition, Brittny has three small children in the home as she struggles to make ends meet. I humbly request your financial support to assist Brittny and her family during this unimaginable tragedy.

 

Financial assistance will help with loss of income, housing expenses, travel, hotel expenses, and food. Once Malik is released from the hospital Brittny will have to move into another home that will accommodate Malik’s needs. These funds will assist Brittny with rent, deposit, etc. creating a more accessible and comfortable living arrangement for Malik.
