Clover was an 8-week-old or younger kitten that my neighbor bought. They did not spay her so she would get pregnant and have kittens for the family, which she did. She is a petite thing who raced out of the house the first chance she had. Their young kids chased her, yelled at her, and pulled her tail. Their two young pit bulls, although they know not to hurt her, excitedly pin her down with their noses to sniff and play. She hates it. My neighbors and their kids used to try to capture her when she would escape the house, which was almost every day, chasing her in the road, under cars, up trees, and in other yards further away. Then they let her come back home on her own. She spent 3 weeks on someone’s back porch two streets up.
She is about 2 years old, became pregnant again, and had 3 adorable calico kittens in my care. All of them need vet care, shots, spaying, flea treatment, food, and litter. Spay/neuter surgeries at a clinic run $45-$75. It takes at least a month to get an appointment if not longer. The same for lower cost vet care. Care at a regular vet runs in the hundreds for one cat per visit. My wife and I are trying to keep up with the cost of them, a dog, and two cats, one that is in kidney failure and needs wet prescription food and testing (see my other GFM).
