Clover Care
Clover's Story
Early one April morning on her way to Snowden School, Jenny Tokheim came across an injured and emaciated dog lying in the middle of the road. A lover of all living things, Jenny pulled over, changed her morning plans, scooped up the dog, and drove to the vet.
Over the course of the next few days Jenny administered antibiotics, fed Clover, provided a place for her to rest and recover, and monitored her wounds. Clover responded with immense gratitude and many tail wags, despite her rough condition, but her bite wound continued to worsen.
One morning, Jenny discovered that Clover’s bite wound was necrotizing and that Clover’s bone was visible and poking out. We’re not going to share pictures of that, but an emergency vet visit revealed that Clover’s leg had to be removed ASAP or the infection would spread throughout her body. Off came the leg.
Since then, Clover’s care team has grown as she has been passed from home to home. Clover is beloved by everyone who keeps her and even everyone who meets her. The staff at the vet seem to vie for the opportunity to take Clover back and strangers on the street have offered money to offset Clover’s medical costs after meeting her one time. Clover eagerly makes friends with everyone, loves cuddles, and has an easy personality. We KNOW she will make a great pet, but first we need to get her the care she needs to get into a rescue and then her forever home!
We Need Your Help
Clover needs a rescue, but before she can enter a rescue and be adopted she needs a few things:
Training ($800) - Clover was attacked and bitten by another dog before Jenny found her. That bite led to an infection that caused her leg to be removed - it was a bad bite. As a result, Clover has some fear and fixation on other dogs. A trainer will help her learn how to behave around other dogs so that when she enters a rescue she is not a threat to other dogs.
Allergy testing and treatment ($300) - Clover has major allergic reactions to something, but we’re not sure what yet. We do know that her reactions to her trigger are intense and itch rashes that she scratches until they become open wounds that get infected. Testing and treatment will help us learn her allergies, control her exposure to them, and treat her for them.
Heartworm treatment ($1000) - Clover is heartworm positive! Treatment takes several months, but Clover is finally healthy enough to begin!
Vaccinations ($300) - Clover needs her basic vaccinations and monthly flea & tick prevention medication to make sure she stays healthy!
Why a Go Fund Me: Jenny has been coordinating Clover’s care since April. In that time she’s received generous donations in all forms - cash, Venmo, and donations straight to the vet! All support for Clover is so appreciated! This Go Fund Me will allow us to streamline donations, so that less time can be spent coordinating and more time can go toward Clover and her recovery. Any additional funds raised will be donated to Clover’s rescue.
