Cloud's Surgery Expenses

It is with grief, sadness, and despair that I reach out to you. Three years ago, my 9-year-old Bichon Frise ‘Cloud’ began to develop a small fatty lymphoma mass on his right hind leg. He’s been through several specialists, unsuccessful attempts to drain, and has done multiple blood work and biopsies with little to no improvements. I was ultimately told that if it wasn’t bothersome, to leave it alone. Slowly but surely his mass increased in size and again sought after professional advice. Considering it was still very small and didn't seem to be a bother to Cloud at the time, they recommended I continue to monitor him as masses like this can be fairly common.

In 2019, Cloud began to develop skin allergies. He would scratch so much that by the time I had come home from work he was bleeding around the eyes and even on the back. He was given prescriptions to help relieve him of these symptoms. Unfortunately, his doctor informed me that with his medication, although it’s relieving his skin irritations, it is slowing down his immune system which may potentially be causing the mass to increase at an accelerated rate.

By 2020, Cloud was now on yearly allergy medication and on and off steroids due to his skin issues. After weeks of waiting on appointments, multiple consultations, being turned down due to the size and sensitivity, Clouds mass has now grown into the size of a grapefruit and too large for them to debulk or remove. Amputation was the only option. Then due to the pandemic, I was laid-off of work; time and circumstances were simply against me and my boy Cloud. I’ve finally found a specialty center that would be able to operate on him immediately, but the estimated surgery costs for amputation was roughly $7,000 (not including the follow up treatments).

Cloud is very happy and full of energy. He loves to run, play tug-of-war and fetch. Given the size of the mass, it’s begun to drag against the floor as he plays. I have exhausted my personal resources, which have also been limited by Covid. This is why I am reaching out to family, friends, and community for support. It's a big number and I am not sure that we will get there, but I would be doing Cloud a disservice if I didn't put it out there. With tears in my eyes, thank you for your consideration.
