After 15 Years of Helping My Parents, I’m Asking for Help
For nearly 15 years, I’ve helped support my parents however I could. I started at 20 years old, at times giving them every other paycheck.
Over the years, I’ve helped with bills, groceries, home repairs, transportation, medical appointments, and unexpected expenses.
My father is a Marine veteran who has struggled with PTSD and other challenges. More recently, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery and continues with treatment and follow-up care.
Years of covering these expenses—often borrowing or refinancing when I couldn’t absorb them myself—have left me with approximately $64,000 in personal-loan debt. I’ve made the decision to put my entire savings toward this debt.
I will have nothing in savings and continue to put what I can each paycheck into paying this down. This will leave me with approximately $35,000 remaining.
I know $35,000 sounds like a lot, but 3,500 people giving just $10 would reach the entire goal.
Even $5, $10, or simply sharing this fundraiser can make a difference. Every donation and share brings me one step closer to putting this debt behind me and moving forward.
