Clondalkin RFC was founded in 1973 by a group of rugby enthusiasts in this rapidly expanding area of Dublin. Nearly 50 years have passed, and we now have a great reputation for being a progressive, family-oriented club as well as being one of Leinster’s fastest growing. We currently have three senior men's teams, a senior women's team and a thriving youth and mini section featuring players from the ages of 5 up to 16 made up of both boys and girls.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 restrictions brought our 2019/2020 season to a sudden and premature end, and this has impacted several events which would have been vital sources of funding for our club.
The cancellation of international games has had a devasting effect on income. Not only have we lost the revenue generated from ticket sales, but we’ve also lost corporate sponsorship relating to ticket allocation. Our bar is our social hub but also a key earner for the club and unfortunately it has been closed since early March and will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
And the last in a series of blows has been the postponement of our flagship fundraiser The Tim O'Connor Annual Golf Classic.
Even though it is the off-season, we still incur significant expenses for maintenance of the pitches and the clubhouse facilities. We also continue to pay utilities, insurance, make loan re-payments and have significantly increased expenditure to help protect our players, volunteers and supporters against the spread of COVID-19.
We are appealing to members and friends to donate to our Club.
We are proud of our club’s near half-century standing as a pillar in our local community. That history has included many challenges and now we face another.
Please donate what you can, and please pass this message on to anyone who is or has been involved with Clondalkin RFC past and present - whether as a player, parent or supporter, whether you live in Clondalkin, Dublin, Ireland or abroad.
Any help you can give will be deeply appreciated and will help the club to be in a stronger position for the resumption of rugby activities.
Stay safe and well, thank you for your continued support. We hope to see you on (or beside) a pitch when the new season starts.
Kind Regards,
Clondalkin RFC Executive Committee
