Clinton, our cheeky 8 year old rescue miniature dachshund, has already beaten the odds once by surviving IVDD. Now he’s facing cancer, but with an 80% chance of being fully cured with urgent specialist care and surgery, we’re determined to give him the long, happy life he deserves.

Hi, my name is Rebecca and we adopted Clinton in 2022 through The Red Foundation when he was five years old. He’d already been through so much, including a difficult history with IVDD, but with love, care, and time he bounced back and grew into the happiest, cheekiest little character. Now at eight years old, he adores cuddles and evening play sessions. He’s especially bonded with our other rescue, Pippa (also a miniature dachshund). Together they are the heart of our family.

Recently, Clinton tripped while doing zoomies on a walk and fell on his face, and we thought he might have hurt his mouth. At his usual vets (Anton Vets, Andover), he went in for what we believed would be a standard dental procedure, checking his teeth and for any injury from the fall. Instead, they removed 11 teeth and discovered a malignant mass. The biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma and they referred us to Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists.

This was completely unexpected. The good news is it was caught early, and surgery can save him. The difficult part is the cost.

We’ve always covered Clinton’s care ourselves, but unfortunately we aren’t insured for this specialist treatment, and the costs have quickly gone beyond what we can manage. We’ve already stretched ourselves to cover the first stage of treatment, paying over 4k ourselves, and we have to admit we need to ask for outside help.

We now need to go ahead asap with Clinton's rostral mandibulectomy surgery (removing a small part of his jaw where the cancer is and reconstructive surgery) before it can spread any further.

Clinton has already overcome so much and has finally got to a place where he has blossomed into the happiest, sweetest little boy who loves life.
