Clint Loper Memorial College Fund

Donation protected
On March 18, 2016, Clint Loper, Leslie [Monteith] Loper's husband, and father to Berkeley and Emmie, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). After a courageous battle, fought with positive energy and buoyed by the love and support of Leslie, Clint slipped away a mere two months later, on May 18, 2016. News of this sudden, tragic and devastating loss spread quickly among the many communities in which the Loper family was involved, past and present, including Les's Shipley School Family. The outpouring of loving concern has been remarkable with so many of Leslie's school-mates expressing their heartbreak and hopes to offer encouragement and support in some small way. After much discussion and thought, it was decided that a memorial college fund for the Loper girls would be the best way to accomplish this.

Please read the following excerpt from Leslie's final journal entry (printed here with permission) - Leslie's words will give you a much better taste of Clint, his priorities and personality, and how sorely he will be missed, than I could ever hope to do…

"… My girls and I have lost a sweet, caring, smart, shy, patient, calm husband and father. He left our world on May 18th, exactly 2 months from when he was diagnosed and started chemo for ALL on March 18. Clint fought hard for those 2 months but his battle was cut short by complications from the havoc of chemo. He was a trooper every day during this time even though he dreaded the side effects that removed him from every day life as he knew it. He rallied for the few family dinners that he was able to handle, he drove Emmie to lacrosse practices when he was strong enough and made 2 home games to see her play. He got to see Berkeley dance at watching week at ATD and spent time researching and discussing all the colleges that she might like to attend. Clint was so very proud of his girls and so involved in their lives. He was the model dad, mellow enough so that they could explore and grow and learn on their own but always checking in with them to make sure they followed through in school and understood responsibility. He, more than anything, supported their passions and was so looking forward to seeing where their passions would take them. He was sometimes frustrated with all of us girls but mostly he laughed at our quirky routines and we laughed at his. He told us really long stories and had long explanations to a simple question that often got the 'eye roll', which meant 'dad, I've heard enough'. I loved him for 29 years, more than half my life and I am so sad/mad that he is not here to be with us now. He was one of the really good ones that needed to be around longer than he was …"

Thank you for your support and donations to help provide a path to college, and a successful, productive and joyful life for Clint's daughters, in his memory and his honor.
