Better patient-communication for better health
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Yi-an and my mission is to close inequities in healthcare through better communication training for those in the healthcare field. As the founder & CEO of Amah Health - a YWCA accelerator cohort company partnered with CommunityHealth’s free clinics – I am fundraising to give FREE, CE-accredited communication training to primary care physicians and nurses who volunteer at community health centers to serve vulnerable populations.
To communicate effectively across cultural and linguistic barriers, health professionals need evidence-based communication strategies to meet patients where they are. Your donation will help them apply communication science for better patient satisfaction and workplace well-being.
I am proud to say that these courses have already shown effectiveness. Here’s what Stephanie D. Willding, CEO of CommunityHealth, had to say:
“This is a radical innovation to influence health behaviors through better communication skills. It's good timing for the new patient-provider dynamics under the pandemic. With telehealth, patients are more open to discussing their health questions.”
This campaign has two goals. The first is to enable primary care health professionals to apply behavioral science in their patient communication to operationalize health equity by truly "seeing" individual patients. The second is to raise awareness of actionable communication strategies in the wider clinical community that traditionally focuses on biomedicine only.
Amah Health's pilot results of the training were published in a poster presentation at the American Medical Association Health Systems Science Summit - I hope you will join this effort and make more health professionals become better health communicators. Every time you help a health professional receive FREE communication training, you are helping thousands of patients to benefit from better communication and consequently, better health for the communities.
