GOFUNDME Project Sponsors: Kitty Wood, RN, MA and Barbara Kiernan, Ph.D.
PURPOSE: Sustain Clinica Alma's Indigenous Healthcare effort in Sonora, Mexico - and expand global health training for healthcare professionals.
WHY: Now is our chance to keep an innovative model of indigenous healthcare in Sonora growing and strong! Universities in the US and Mexico are considering adopting into their curriculum external practica that integrates virtual and on-the-ground training with the Clinic's program to provide healthcare to remote indigenous communities like the Guarijio (Macurawe) in the southern mountains of Sonora. This program has been exceptionally successful by combining a) training of village healthcare promotors, b) installing telemedicine equipment, and c) engaging local doctors and nurses. THE PROGRAM IS WORKING - AND SAVING LIVES!!! To sustain and disseminate this program, the Clinic has also been working with university medical programs to pilot global health training opportunities through telemedicine and virtual training programs for university students in nursing, public health, and pharmacy. A WIN-WIN for the INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AND FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS!
HOW: Your help is URGENTLY REQUESTED now to sustain this collaborative effort. Funds will send a team of 15 graduate students from the University of Arizona (UA), University of Sonora (UNISON), and the Instituto Interamericano de Educacion Para La Salud SC (IIESS) down to the indigenous communities for training, learning, and evaluation.
Thanks again! Many of you have helped during the pandemic to bring critical medical supplies and PPE to this effort. It is our hope that you will help again to give this incredibly valuable program support in the future and provide a critical training option for professionals in global health. Please help if you can!
ABRAZOS A TODOS Y CADA UNO DE USTEDES!
