On Monday, September 7, the Holiday Farm Fire was sparked by a power line downed by 60 mile an hour winds. This fire, whipped by high winds through old growth forests, raced down both sides of the McKenzie River, sweeping through the communities where Cory grew up, and where his family has lived for generations.
The fire moved so fast that no evacuation warnings were sent out. Only a single "leave now" alert was received. By the time Cory's parents left their house only minutes later, there were fallen, flaming trees blocking their driveway. Luckily, his dad Bo has a lifetime of logging experience, and cut a pathway to the highway. They fled downriver, driving through flames on both sides of the highway, stopping to pick up Brenda's elderly father, Fritz.
We are so grateful and blessed that all of the Cline family made it downriver safely, where they continue to gather together. Right now, they are staying with family and are safe. Cory's parents, sister, two brothers and their families, his aunt and uncle, and cousins have all been displaced.
Unfortunately, several large fires are burning across Oregon, as well as other western states. Yesterday, the fire was 37,000 acres and continuing to grow, with 0% containment. It will likely be days before our family can return to see whether their homes have been damaged, destroyed, or are still standing.
Many of our friends in Arizona, and our friends and family members in other states have reached out and asked how they can help.
All of Cory's family members fled the fire with only the clothing on their backs. There was no time to pack or take possessions. They have no idea whether their homes and possessions were burned or spared.
If anyone would like to make a contribution to Cory's family during this ongoing tragedy, so they do not have to worry about purchasing clothing, food, toiletries or paying for other day to day expenses during this time, we would be humbly honored and grateful.
