Climbing for a Cause

I’m a climber. After five years of overcoming my fear of heights this activity has come to mean a few things. First, I get to defy gravity for fun. But even better, I have a special bond with others who willingly ascend the rocky heights like I do. Last year, I was blessed to get to share this bond with a man named Clay Frisbie.
I met Clay Frisbie at a 24-hour climbing competition in Arkansas, but after 10 years of coming to the Ozarks for this event, he told me it would be his last year competing. His plan was to move to El Salvador and become a full-time missionary with an organization called ENLACE. His passion was to build long-term relationships in the local communities in order to equip them to create long-term solutions to poverty.
Clay's story is very special to me, because El Salvador is where my mother was born and raised. Over the years, she has taken me to visit family and help in local communities, which has given me the chance to see the conditions there firsthand. Many people in the rural areas of El Salvador live on less than 50 cents a day and gang crime is a significant danger in many areas.
Despite these conditions, El Salvador is a beautiful country with people who are kind and humble in a way that inspires respect and love. Clay is playing a powerful part in helping churches serve in their communities to make a significant difference in improving the lives of families. He has a genuine heart to connect with the people of El Salvador and find the most effective way to serve them.
Clay told me, "I am continually amazed at God’s grace as the people of El Salvador teach me on a daily basis the importance of listening and loving others. I feel many times the most important part of my day are the conversations and meals that I share with others in the campo just listening to what they have to say.”
This year, I’ve entered to compete in the 24-hour climbing competition again, this time with my friend Jacob Williams as my partner. He and I believe that we can use our entry as a platform to support Clay and the ENLACE team in El Salvador. Every dollar we raise will go to support them as they partner with churches to build local businesses, wells, and communities. We share Clay's story because it’s important. We believe in his power to make a difference, and we believe in yours too, which is why we need your help.
There is great power in the act of a community coming together in support of someone who has committed to selfless service. In a time when division and conflict is displayed on our screens every day, it gives me hope to see a man living out of his commitment to putting others before himself. In fact it inspires me to do the same. Please consider donating to help support Clay as he continues to impact the lives of El Salvador.
