This morning, 11/08/2025, our beautiful Shadow was put down due to an aggressive bone cancer (osteosarcoma) that had seized her hind leg and caused her great suffering. She was only 8 years old. She was the sweetest, most beautiful and most affectionate dog you'd ever meet, and she will be sorely missed.
Greyhounds are racing dogs, and once they retire kennels and charities such as Greyhound Rescue Fife pick up these greyhounds, like they did with our Shadow, and keep them fed and loved until they find a forever home, ensuring that they receive all the love, care, and kindness that each of us deserves.
Greyhounds and other larger dog breeds are particularly susceptible to premature bone cancer, and there is very little research put into finding a cure for this condition, however the people at the University of Pennsylvania and The Greyhound Health Initiative are working on treatments for this condition hoping that our furry friends might suffer less in the future.
All funds donated to this cause will be split 50/50 between Greyhound Rescue Fife and the Greyhound Health Initiative, and on the 6th of September 2025 I will climb Ben Macdui in the name of Shadow's memory, regardless of if the target amount is reached or not.
We will all miss you Shadow. Mac will too.
