Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for a Cause

If you're reading this, that means someone believes in your ability to make a meaningful impact in the world. Thank you.

I'm Jason Shelfer. My wife (Jana) and I have been married for 18 years today. (It hasn't always been easy for either of us)
In May of 2024, Jana will have been in a wheelchair for 34 years of her life. She received her wheelchair shortly after she became paralyzed from a car collision in 1990 when she was just 15 years old. Her life took a huge pivot that day, but she still had the means for mobility and could move "differently" toward her dreams and destiny.

In 2022, Jana and I went on a trip to Puerto Vallarta with a charity called Chair the Love. We delivered 250 wheelchairs to people in PV who desperately needed a wheelchair for basic mobility needs, but for many different reasons could not get one on their own.

The first person we delivered a chair to changed me. He and his wife were in their mid-sixties and she had been CARRYING him wherever he absolutely needed to go for 10 YEARS. The LOVE and RELIEF Jana and I witnessed and felt from both of them in that moment he sat in his new wheelchair was something we couldn't recover from.

We had to get involved. We've since delivered about 550 additional chairs to people in need. Chair The Love has delivered thousands.

In January 2024, Chair The Love asked us to be on their advisory board. We joined and we do what we can to further the mission.

There are 100,000,000+ people around the globe identified as needing, and not having, a wheelchair for their basic transportation needs and independence.

Jana and I will be delivering somewhere between 250 and 550 wheelchairs to some of those people in Africa, as soon as we raise the funds and Chair the Love gets the logistics taken care of.

While we are there, we've been asked to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro. It's a challenge without a disability. Some people would say, "It's just too hard given the circumstances."

Jana and I have had our moments when we thought something was "too hard", but this trip will be to show the world Everything is Possible as we work together, love and help one another, and progress patiently.

To help make this happen, Jana and I need about an additional $68,000 in usable cash and possibly a corporate sponsorship that I am working on.
The $68,000 will be used for some travel and lodging expenses, to purchase some wheelchairs for recipients in Kenya or Tanzania, and for the team and equipment we will need for the summit.

We're going to figure out how to make this happen, and we're going to put a dent in that 100 million who are waiting for a wheelchair.

Everyone deserves a shot at his/her dream while contributing to society. Help us give the gift of mobility.
