Climbing Kiliminjaro to help finish a classroom in Zimbabwe
Donation protected
Hello! On July 3, I (Amelie) will embark on an eight-day trek up the Lemosho–Southern Circuit of Mount Kilimanjaro. I hope to reach the summit at 5,895 meters on July 9. The climb includes seven nights in tents, five separate climate zones, and a pre-dawn summit push—but the climb is also motivated by a higher purpose!
Why? Because 260 children at Dongamuse Primary School in rural Binga, Zimbabwe still learn in a classroom without windows or furniture, with dirt floors and unfinished walls. Thanks to the community and fundraising last year with WIMIN (the Women in Medicine International Network) and CAMFED Zimbabwe, the two-classroom block now has a roof. However, they still need to finish the classroom and build a teacher's block so that the school can progress toward full government registration. It is still a satellite school which means children need to walk 10km each way to the main school for exams. Having recently finished my GCSE exams, I can't imagine if I had to walk 20k each day on top of exams.
Your gift will travel further than you imagine. Every pound raised goes straight to materials and local labour, creating both classrooms and much-needed jobs. Join me in spirit on the climb by donating today!
The first picture shows the children in front of the school block, the second picture shows the interior of the classroom and the last picture shows a couple of the students outside the classroom.
