Climbing Ireland's highest mountain for Charlie!

Donation protected

I (Lauren), along with my twin (Amy) and her partner (Daniel) will be taking on 'The Summit Of Carrauntoohil', Ireland highest mountain.

The climb date will be the 27th July'19 were we have selected the 'the Coomloughra horseshoe' route which,  scopes over the summit points of all three highest mountains in Ireland.

The reason behind this climb is to help contribute towards Charlie Crosbys costly rehabilitation *see story below. Charlie holds a very special place my heart and simply i would do anything for him.

Charlie's story:

23-year-old Charlie Crosby collapsed on the morning of 6th June 2019 and was rushed to Barnet hospital by ambulance. They did a CT scan and found a bleed on the brain. They put him in an induced coma and rushed him to London Neurological Hospital in Queens Square where he went straight down for emergency surgery that lasted 7 hours. Charlie had a brain AVM that ruptured deep in the left side of his brain. This is a condition that Charlie was born with. This could happen to anyone at any time and it is just unfortunate that it has happened to Charlie

Charlie is currently paralyzed in the right side of his body, and we have been told that the haemorrhage occurred in the part of the brain that controls understanding and speech and this certain to be damaged.

Charlie remains unconscious and critically ill, he has been battling against swelling and fluid build up which, has been causing dangerously high levels of pressure.

Thankfully the pressure seems to have plateaued at an acceptable level and now the sedation will gradually be reduced over the next few days.

Unfortunately, it was discovered that while under very heavy sedation Charlie contracted an infection in his chest and has a collapsed lung.

This is being treated with very strong antibiotics and the staffs have assured us that Charlie is still fighting hard.

The chances of this happening to him are 1 in 10,000 and the chances of this happening in this particular part of the brain are multiplied by a further 10,000. This is going to be a very long road ahead and he is going to need all of the love and support of his friends and family. We will leave no stone unturned in our determination to get him back to the Charlie that we all know and love.

Anything we can do to make his recovery the slightest bit easier, we would do in a heartbeat.

Date of the Climb 27th July*

Additional half Marathon will be completed by myself in October'19 within Central London.
