Hi, my name is Hilda, and together with Barry, both of us in our seventies, we’ve decided to do something a little wild: climb Table Mountain in South Africa. Why? Because there’s something that matters more to us than our comfort, or knees that don’t always play along … and that is protecting children from abuse.

For over 14 years, I’ve been passionately teaching children the tools they need to feel safe, empowered, and heard. The approach that’s close to my heart is Protective Behaviours - a powerful program that helps children understand personal safety, trust their instincts, and speak up when something feels unsafe.

Now, I want to turn this passion into something lasting. I’ve written an Activity Book that teaches the Protective Behaviours principles in a child-friendly, engaging way. It’s designed to be used by parents, carers, teachers, counsellors - anyone working with children.

And here’s the best part: I want to give it away completely free to as many children and families as possible.

That’s where the mountain comes in.

To raise the funds needed to print and distribute this book, we’re climbing Table Mountain. It’s symbolic - it’s tough, it’s high, and yes, it’s a bit mad for people our age - but every step we take represents a child learning that they have the right to feel safe at all times.

Our goal is to raise $6,000 to cover the design, printing, and distribution of the first 10,000 copies of the 30-page Protective Behaviours Activity Book.

Every donation, big or small, gets us one step closer to the summit - and more importantly, one step closer to giving children the tools they need to stay safe.
