Footprints of Compassion: Climbing for Hospice Heroes
In memory of Simon, Chris, and Clifford, Louise, Sadie, and Marie are embarking on a journey up Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England.
John Eastwood Hospice provided solace and support during all of their journeys, easing their transition and comforting their loved ones. Louise, Sadie and Marie know firsthand the profound impact of the hospice's care. Louise and Sadie walked alongside their husbands through their courageous paths and Marie, with her family supported her grandad.
Now, united by love and resilience, we climb to give back to the haven that brought light in our darkest hours. Your contribution will honour Simon, Chris and Cliffords legacies, while also ensuring others facing cancer receive the same warmth and care.
Join us in our mission of compassion and hope. Together, let's make a difference for those navigating life's toughest paths. Thank you for your generosity and support."

Sadie's Journey with Chris
In January 2020, amidst a national pandemic, my husband Chris received a devastating diagnosis of incurable cancer. His journey, marred by years of undiagnosed symptoms, unfolded with a tumultuous battle against both lung and bowel cancer. Despite enduring countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Papillion treatment, and a gruelling 12-hour surgery, his fight was compounded by the isolation of shielding due to COVID-19. For three and a half years, our family lived in seclusion, sacrificing normalcy to protect Chris from the virus that posed a fatal threat.
Throughout his ordeal, Chris faced the agonising side effects of his illness alone, barred from the comfort of loved ones by stringent hospital regulations. Despite his pain, he exemplified unwavering courage and determination. Tragically, in July 2023, Chris was deemed end-of-life, succumbing to sepsis triggered by cancer complications. It was then that John Eastwood Hospice emerged as a beacon of solace.
Having transitioned to hospice care, Chris and I found a sanctuary where the burden of his illness was lifted, allowing us to focus on cherishing our final moments together. The compassion and support extended by the hospice staff were nothing short of extraordinary. Their empathy not only eased Chris's journey but also provided solace to our children, family, and friends during the darkest of days.
The care bestowed upon us by these remarkable individuals transcends mere professionalism; it is an embodiment of true vocation and love. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude for the invaluable gift they bestowed upon us. While fundraising feels like an inadequate gesture, it is our humble attempt to honour their unwavering dedication and ensure that others facing similar battles find solace in their embrace.
Louise's journey with Simon
In May 2018, our lives took a devastating turn when my beloved husband, Simon, was diagnosed with cancer at just 39 years old. Despite the terminal prognosis, Simon approached his battle with unwavering positivity and resilience. He was my warrior, and I couldn't have been prouder of him. However, in August 2019, cancer stole him from us.
In his final weeks, Simon found solace in the compassionate care provided by John Eastwood Hospice. Their warmth and support not only comforted Simon but also extended to his mother and our family. Simon felt safe and cared for, surrounded by dedicated staff and doctors who tended to his every need.
A special bond formed between Simon and Reverend Kevin, affectionately known as "Kev the Rev." Kevin's regular visits brought Simon much-needed comfort, and he became a pillar of support for both me and Simon's mother, Carol. Kevin's compassionate guidance, including leading Simon's funeral, will forever hold a special place in my heart.
The hospice became our sanctuary during those final days. I spent countless nights by Simon's side, grateful for the hospice's accommodation and unwavering dedication. They treated Simon with the utmost dignity and warmth until his last breath, easing his journey and bringing peace to our hearts.
As we approach the 5th anniversary of Simon's passing and what would have been our 20th wedding anniversary, I am compelled to honour his memory in a meaningful way. I've chosen to raise funds for John Eastwood Hospice, whose invaluable care touched our lives profoundly. Your contributions will ensure that they can continue providing exceptional support to families like ours during their most vulnerable moments.
Thank you for joining me in keeping Simon's legacy alive and supporting a cause that meant so much to him, to us, and to countless others in their time of need.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Louise X.
