Climb up Scafell Pike for After Matters charity
Donación protegida
Hi my name is Ava, and on the 24th of June, me and my friends will be climbing Scafell Pike (Englands highest mountain) to raise money towards the charity After Matters.
6 years ago my older brother, Matthew, was attacked at the age of 17 and as a result of this sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that changed his life. My brother especially and the rest of my family really struggled throughout this time. We felt hopeless, as at the time, there was very little support for young people who have suffered a brain injury and their families. My brother experienced physical changes but mostly mental changes. His emotions were heightened and he often felt alone, like he had no one that understood him. He lost a lot that day and my mum wanted to ensure that other people with a brain injury did not have to struggle the way that my brother did.
During my brother’s time in hospital my mum wanted this lack of support to change. From this she decided to set up After Matters, a charity that helps and supports young people (aged 16-25) who have suffered an acquired brain injury in the Greater Manchester area. The charity offers support, sources of help and provides grants for these young brain injury survivors.
The charity aims to raise awareness of this hidden disability and make a difference for young people with a brain injury, ensuring they feel supported and most importantly not alone.
This charity holds a special place in my heart and it would mean a lot to me and the charity if anyone could donate whatever they can.
Thank you, Ava.
