Climate Zero Hour Documentary
"In an age of political expediency and ideological schisms it is best to consider the facts and let reason and science be the judge of what is right and wrong. Climate Zero Hour examines the world-wide energy dilemma from a position of reason and offers insight on how to move ahead on climate change and argues that a larger role for nuclear energy is required."
Climate Zero Hour is aimed at helping you understand why we have to build a low-carbon future. I'm planning on shooting this mini-documentary as a companion to the book, but a companion that can stand on its own two feet as well. Some people simply prefer video over text. It is not going to be a 1-on-1 transition from paper to film. And if things go well, I might consider creating a couple more.
Why a Mini-Documentary?
Great pro-nuclear documentaries like Pandora's Promise and The New Fire are made with great budgets and can penetrate the mainstream and push the needle forward on public opinion. Smaller, low-budget, documentaries are less likely to achieve the same. In fact, without a sizeable budget it's not going penetrate the mainstream. But that doesn't mean that there's no place for smaller/shorter documentaries. One of the downsides of the bigger documentaries is that they aren't available for free.
The Climate Zero Hour mini documentary will be available for free, it can be shared with everyone. And I won't claim copyright (which I never do, but I would like to be credited), so you can grab whatever you want from it and re-use it.
The documentary has not been shot / made yet...
I need your help getting this documentary shot. It's low-budget, not no-budget. Here's a cost-breakdown:
1. I'm planning on conducting interviews in the San Francisco Area (because the people I want to interview are there) which means that I have to be able to travel there and move around. So one plane-ticket and renting a small car for a week. (Note that I will not be IN SF too much - only 2 out of 7 days present overseas).
2. I need new recording hardware, want to get as much bang for our buck:Panasonic G80 Camera, top-mounted shotgun microphone for redundancy, tripod, memory cards, batteries, charger
3. I need a small laptop, mainly for recording the audio and uploading all the files (safety...)-will be using my existing pre-amp for powering the microphones and such
4. I need a couple of soft-lights, a new Rode NTG1 shotgun microphone, booms
5. Stock footage, Music, Sounds
My deadline is within two weeks, because I have to arrange the plane-tickets and everything and I am planning to go there in the first week of october.
Please let me know if you want to be credited as a backer, or not!
Thank you for your consideration!
