Help me build a skeptical climate education portal
Students and teachers need skeptical science and we plan to deliver it.
There are many on-line sources of alarmist climate change education materials (see my listing of 33 ) but none for the realistic skeptical view. A recent poll says that many teachers want to teach about the real climate debate, not just alarmist side. But skeptical teaching materials are scarce, so we propose to build a climate change debate education website, with your help.
On the content side we are collecting classroom material that is suitable for high school or lower grades, which means it has to be relatively non-technical and non-political (no bashing). I myself have five lesson plans to put in, on solar activity, the little ice age, ocean circulation, etc. Our team plans to write more.
On the money side the costs are significant, especially the labor of collecting, editing and presenting the classroom content, plus creating new stuff. Getting the word out to the hundreds of thousands of science teachers is a big project in itself. In some cases it will be the students and parents who raise the issue of the debate, using our content.
See our Strategic Plan .
No donation is too small (or too large). Portals cost money, so there is a great deal to be done.
My team includes a number of teachers plus Dr. Walt Warnick, retired Director of the US Energy Department's Office of Scientific and Technical Information. Under Walt, OSTI built several world class portals and I worked closely with him for ten years. This included major research into K-12 science education, which we will bring to bear on this skeptical climate portal, such as describing and editing the content, plus creating new lessons.
The teachers need this and so do the children. Please gear up your contributions and let's get going.
