Hi. I'm Sonja and my brother Cleveland Gipson was rushed to the hospital after being found nonresponsive in his home by neighbors. He had recently received a Covid diagnosis for the second time in less than 30 days. At some point prior to being hospitalized, he developed pneumonia. He was sedated, then tubed, and has not stabilized since. As his only living sibling, I immediately made plans to join him to aide in any way I could. With the help of the Tuskegee University Spring 1991 line of KAPPA Alpha Psi Inc., I have been in Mexico City, Mexico since Thursday, July 21st. I was able to accomplish a number of critical things with the help of coworkers and friends of my brother. The fact remains however, that he is in critical condition and fighting for his life. Doctors are continuously monitoring his condition and adjusting his treatment with each new insight to his health prior to admission. They are availing all of the medical support possible to assist his body in the fight to heal and to begin to repair itself. They have no time frame for when major improvements might begin to show stability towards his prognosis. I am asking for assistance at this time to help me remain here to make decisions on his behalf and provide things necessary for his care. So far, I have had to pay ambulance transport to get him to the right facility. Also, the health care system here is very different from the states and things as simple as soap, deodorant, wipes, etc. must be provided to the hospital by the patients family. Transportation to and from the hospital as well as around the city to handle any business matters, like going to the Embassy; food; and personal care items that I was not able to travel with or pack on such short notice, are starting to add up. Any donation that you are able to provide will be greatly appreciated.
