Cleo the Cat needs a Neurologist
Donation protected
On Sunday 01/17/21, Cleo woke up very ill. She was agitated, her tail was fluffed up and she was growling. She had dilated pupils and could not walk and was excessively drooling with labored breathing. She was taken to the Veterinary Emergency Group where she was evaluated and held for observation but could not be treated due to finances.
They surmised that she was acting as if she had been poisoned. However, she had not come into contact with any household cleaners or toxic plants and her brother, was fine.
She was taken to Planned Pethood (a low cost clinic recommended by the Veterinary Emergency Group ) the next day to be evaluated. They did lab work that showed elevated liver labs but otherwise everything was normal. She was put on IV fluids and medication to flush her system for two days then released on the evening of 01/20/21. She was unable to walk when Kevin got her home. She was still poofed up and acting as if she was in pain when she attempted to walk. They kept dismissing this attributing it to the potential ingested toxin.
On the morning of 01/21/21 she was taken back to the clinic. They kept her all day then called to inform Kevin at the end of the day that they suspect a nefarious neurological component and can not treat her. It is out of their scope of practice.
The veterinarians are baffled, she needs to be seen tomorrow 01/22/21 by a veterinarian neurologist.
She is not doing well.
This is exceptionally disturbing given that she is a rescue. When she was seven weeks old, a former roommate that owned her smashed her against a concrete wall. She suffered a traumatic brain injury and almost died. We spent months rehabilitating her. She is now four years old and had been normal since that incident. You would have no idea that she had ever suffered that trauma as an infant.
She is such a kind cat. This poor girl has been through so much in her short life. Her best friend is her brother and they're inseparable. She carries around a stuffed mouse she's had since she was a kitten and will chirp at you. She's so gentle, she wouldn't hurt a fly. Kevin is an exceptional pet dad that babies these cats and is beside himself with the turn of events. I've never met someone so attentive to their cats - he even brushes their teeth.
That said, he cannot afford the testing that is going to be needed. With the hospitalization, Cleo's care is already sitting around $500. To get her evaluated by a specialist and treated will likely run close to $1,600.
Please help. This kitty needs to be able to get properly evaluated to get to the root of the issue. Without knowing what's going on, they can't get her comfortable. It's a horrible situation.
Will update the GoFundMe with the vet invoices and summary from Planned Pethood in the morning. They have yet to provide them.
