Karen is a beautiful girl that was born with a Cleft Palate and related mouth and dental issues . We have the opportunity to "make a difference"  in her life by radically changing her appearance and solving health problems stemming from the roof of her mouth. 

As part of her treatment plan, a hospital in Antigua, Guatemala will perform the Cleft Palate surgery at 1/3 their normal cost and we are working with the Dean of Odontology at the University of Mariano Galvez to utilize the university's facilities to further reduce the cost of the treatment plan.

Karen is 18 years old living in Guatemala.  Her mother and her siblings attend a Christian Church and Karen became a Christian this year.  She has been studying to become a Commercial Secretary and will graduate in October 2018.  When completed, Karen's life will be dramatically changed and give her the confidence to fulfill her job responsibility of interacting with the public.

To date, Karen has undergone a number of evaluations to determine her treatment plan.  the cavities in her teeth have been filled in preparation for the major treatment plan proposed.

The treatment  plan to deal with Karen's medical and dental issues involve three major steps:

1. In November 2018 surgery is schedule in Antigua Guatemala to repair the Cleft Palate and repair the hole in the roof of her mouth. 

2. Next, she will undergo dental surgery to correct her overbite and add bone to her jaw in preparation for the teeth straightening process.

3. Braces and if needed, teeth replacement will be the final step to straighten Karen's teeth..

Based on estimates for the medical and dental treatment planned, the entire cost is projected at $4,000 USD. 

I have been personally involved with Karen and her family through the church in Guatemala and the pastor of the church for many years.  My wife and I travel to Guatemala at least three times a year and will personally oversee the entire process and distribution of funds..
