#ClearTheList for Teachers

Please help #CLEAR THE LIST!

I am known as Everyday@icope on Twitter. On July 27, 2022, I read several teachers’ #ClearTheList wish list requests on Twitter. After making big dents in a couple of lists, addressing snack requests in others, and purchasing a desk chair for one teacher who had been sitting in kindergarten-size chairs, word spread like wildfire on the Twitter teacher hotline. As I began purchasing items from other wish lists and posting the information on their Twitter accounts, I was inundated with teacher requests — about 600! These requests are for retweets, purchases, and follows.

Teachers express a type of gratitude like no other. They are excited about being noticed. They cry happy tears of thanks and demonstrate an absolute appreciation for the generosity! By joining the #ClearTheList movement, you can help educators by taking some stress and the added financial burden off their shoulders.

Do you know many teachers pay for most classroom supplies from their pockets? It adds approximately $700 to $1200 to their personal budget per year. To offset this financial burden, teachers post their Donors Choose Project and Amazon or Walmart wish lists on their social media accounts. These #ClearTheList wish lists contain much-needed supplies and food items to stock their classrooms. Back-to-school is almost in full swing, so every teacher has school and supplies in mind. This is especially true for teachers in Title 1 schools that serve and perhaps reside in underserved communities.

Title 1 schools have a student base where at least 40% of enrollment comes from low-income families. Title 1 schools can be found in urban and rural communities throughout the US. One teacher is at a Title 1 school with an 80% enrollment rate of students from low-income families. Now, more than ever, joining the #ClearTheList movement with many teachers returning to school is essential.

Classroom setup and organization can be incredibly stressful for teachers. Many of our teachers — especially in the last few years — were stretched to the max. Following almost two years of virtual learning due to COVID-19, teachers will get back into physical classrooms, and some will feel incredibly anxious after so much time away. We can work together to #ClearTheList of items to prepare teachers to rock and roll the calendar year. It does not matter if the wish list belongs to a kindergarten teacher, sixth-grade educator, a librarian, a specialist, or a special education teacher — so many need your direct help.

Setting up a classroom is no simple task, and it’s more challenging to do so from scratch. There are #ClearTheList requests for:

  • Children's snacks, breakfast, and lunch-type foods;
  • Sensory toys and fire tablets for special education;
  • Gift cards, pencils, pens, composition journals, paper, and Post-it Notes;
  • Colored pencils and pens, glue, Crayola Crayons, construction paper, and every other form of art supplies; and
  • Laminators and laminating supplies, games, desk chairs for teachers, chairs for students (yes, really), flexible seating for students, shelving, books, flashcards, and plastic bins to keep all of it organized.

This #ClearTheList movement needs community support. Several teachers and their many students starting school today will walk into bare classrooms empty-handed. Your donations will allow for the purchasing of necessary teaching supplies and food items — big and small. Any monetary size donation is acceptable. Teachers requesting much-needed supplies and those who have met their goals will be highlighted along with receipts and thank you notes.

Many people are supporting the #ClearTheList movement. 100% of GoFundMe proceeds will help teachers clear their Amazon or Walmart wish lists and funding #DonorsChoose projects.

Good thoughts, good words, good deeds!

Thank you for your time and consideration.
