I recently learned about an organization that helps pay off negative school lunch accounts, and their mission really moved me. After reaching out to them for support and not hearing back, I decided to take matters into my own hands. When I called our local school district in Nassau County, FL, I was surprised to find out that there are many negative lunch account balances—not just for students, but for teachers as well. This means that while everyone is still able to eat, they’re left with a debt that can weigh heavily on them.

No one should have to worry about being in debt just to have a meal at school. It’s comforting to know that the district ensures no one goes hungry, but I believe we can do more to support our community. By coming together, we can help clear these negative balances and give both students and teachers a fresh start for the new year.
