The citizens of the island country of Dominica are suffering an unprecedented situation following the direct hit by Hurricane Maria. This Category 5 storm and the associated winds and flooding have left many homeless.
Our hearts ache for everyone but our resources allow us to impact the conditions of only a few. We are focusing our help and attention on a subgroup of the population that is most familiar, the employees of Clear Harbor and their families.
So far, we know that numerous families have lost all their possessions and find themselves starting over again. As with any natural disaster of this magnitude, recovery will take some time.
Clear Harbor is a small business in the USA but is a primary employer in Dominica. Many of our employees, representing more than 750 Dominican families, are the main breadwinners of their households. We are attempting to provide direct assistance to these families knowing this will strengthen them to help other Dominicans.
Through our on-island community involvement program, Clear Harbor Cares, we are establishing a disaster relief fund to assist those affected. 100% of funds received by Clear Harbor Cares from GoFundMe will go to support Clear Harbor employees who have suffered a loss and are attempting to rebuild.
A Clear Harbor Cares team in Dominica will analyze needs and distribute funds accordingly. We will provide updates on the impact of help given to families.

Clear Harbor Cares is an ongoing, privately-funded philanthropic organization created to uplift and support members of the communities in which Clear Harbor operates. Local Clear Harbor Cares team members work closely with community leaders to identify needs, coordinate financial resources and promote volunteer efforts associated with endeavors that include education and well-being, civic responsibility, cultural heritage, economic prosperity, and emergency preparedness and relief.
About This Fundraising Campaign
- I am Tut Smith, president and founder of Clear Harbor LLC, which is headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia. The creator of this page is Mark Bowen, our director of marketing who has responsibility for market communications and public relations.
- Clear Harbor operates multiple customer care and business process outsourcing centers in the Caribbean, including Dominica, where we employ more than 750 associates who are Dominican citizens.
- Clear Harbor Cares is our on-island community involvement and support organization that orchestrates activities and programs focused on education, culture, welfare and relief. The Clear Harbor Cares team will assess the situation of each Clear Harbor employee and/or family members in need and provide funds directly to them to help them recover from storm damage and purchase food, water and other necessities.
- As donations are received, we will withdraw these funds and deposit them directly into the Clear Harbor Cares bank account so that the organization's on-island administrator can access and make monies available to designated Dominican families in need.
