My neighbor when I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Benin, West Africa is a school director at a small rural primary school. Recently he called to tell me that the well at his school dried up. As a result, children have had to drink water from nearby springs which are heavily polluted from human and animal waste. Many have fallen sick recently. He found an engineer in a nearby village who can dig further into the existing well to reach more groundwater, but he needs some funds to pay for this work. He has recouped some of the cost from cashew nuts harvested on the school ground, and the remaining cost will be covered by this fundraiser.
