Clean Water Campaign For Sierra Leone

In Sierra Leone, only one in four households have a place to wash their hands and only one in fourteen households have soap. Most Sierra Leoneans collect their drinking water from polluted sources including ponds, unprotected wells, etc. Infections and parasites found in contaminated water account for the largest cause of death in Sierra Leone. With 70% of the population living below the poverty line and with one of the lowest life expectancies in the world at only 56 years, these statistics can be blamed on poor living conditions. According to WaterAid, more than six out of 10 people in Sierra Leone don’t have safe water and eight out of 10 people don’t have access to a decent toilet. As a result, over 1,200 children under five die each year from waterborne disease in Sierra Leone. Without this basic access to safe water, sanitation, and good hygiene, Sierra Leoneans can’t live dignified, healthy lives.
The government has officially recognized people’s right to water, which is a great start. While we are actively raising awareness about this issue in our communities, we need your help to make our efforts go even further. We want to support Sierra Leoneans by donating funds to support this right. For $250, WE Charity will help a family access clean water so they can stay healthy, send their children to school and grow thriving crops. Our goal is to raise $1000 by January 12th 2020, and help four families. This opportunity changes everything. By donating, you are helping make a difference in someone else’s life. One LESS child will have to fight for their life in a hospital, and one LESS child won’t have to walk kilometres to collect water from a contaminated source. Clean water changes lives.
