Clean up the BFDR Play Area

The BFDR kennel does an AMAZING job, taking in dogs and preparing them to move on to fosters and adopters. Unfortunately, all the funding consistently goes to taking care of the urgent medical needs and the kennel area itself is frequently put on the back-burner. What this means is that the kennel yard area is a MUDDY MESS! Even days after rain comes through, the ground just doesn't dry out! This presents a LOT of issues for the kennel workers and the dogs that call the kennel home.

The obvious issues of the mess this creates for the kennel workers in the form of muddy paws coming back into the kennel runs, requiring extra cleanup and additional costs in grooming to keep the dogs clean and healthy are easy to imagine.

What's not so obvious is the serious health and safety risks to the dogs and workers. Mud is dangerous for multiple reasons. It presents a slipping hazard that can injure even the most careful kennel workers. For dogs,  it also increases the risk of ACL injuries as the dogs either slip or have to struggle to walk with their paws sinking into the mud. Mud is also a perfect environment for parasites! It easily harbors nasty things like giardia, hookworm, whipworm, and other things that can harm our beloved fluffies.  Not only does this impact the dogs health, making them feel miserable, but it also increase veterinary costs on the rescue to treat these issues. 

We have a solution to all of the issues, but we need your help! If we can get enough pea-stone to cover the outside run area in at least a couple inches of stone, it will provide enough of a barrier and drainage for the water to eliminate all theses issues! Unfortunately, pea-stone isn't cheep for the stone, or for the intensive labor to prep the area and lay the stone out. Jean has already found a place that will do this for us, but we need to raise $5,300 to make this happen! Anything you can donate will be a HUGE help! We can make this happen!
